The Advanced Transit Association advocates for various kinds of alternative fixed guideway systems

The American Public Transit Association is the chief representative of the transit industry in the United States.

Token collecting is the special interest of the American Vecturist Association.

The Boston Street Railway Association was founded in 1959 and includes an emphasis on streets railways and rapid transit in the Massachusetts Bay area. It holds monthly meetings, publishes a regular bulletin and books.

In the Philadelphia, PA, region, the Delaware Valley Association of Railroad Passengers concerns itself with all area transportation, including an emphasis on the SEPTA subway and light rail rapid transit systems.

Chicago, IL is the home base of the Central Electric Railfans' Association, a membership organization and publisher of major books on topics ranging from streetcars and light rail through heavy transit to mainline electric railroads.

The Electric Railroaders Association (US) is a membership organization of railfans and profeesionals who share a hobby interest in electric railroads. Founded in 1934, its handsome glossy publication Headlights contains illustrated news, history features and book reviews, currenly published semi-annually. Its New York Division is very active and meets monthly.

Light rail rapid transit applications as well as traditional streetcars and tramways are the emphasis of the Light Rail Transit Association (GB), a crossover organization that bridges the interests of hobbyist, professional and industry. Their monthly publication Tramways and Modern Transit stands out in its field.

The Monorail Society website contains information for those who are interested in the various forms of unconventional fixed guideway systems.

Rethink LITP2000 is a project of the advocacy group Long Island Progressive Coalition. It seeks the support of organizations and individuals in the Long Island, NY, area in reconsidering highway solutions proposed is the current regional planning process.

The Shore LIne Trolley Museum of the Branford (CT) Electric Railway Association includes examples of New York City elevated and subway cars, many in operation.

The Surface Transportation Policy Project (US) is an advocacy group supported by foundations and donations It emphasizes energy, environmental and aesthetic quality issues and "the needs of people, rather than vehicles, in assuring access to jobs, services, and recreational opportunities."
